Blackwell Island to have limited access

COEUR d'ALENE - Boaters and picnickers planning to spend the day at the Bureau of Land Management's Blackwell Island Recreation Site and boat launch this Sunday will have limited access to the site due to the annual Ironman competition.

This year's event utilizes U.S. 95 south for the bicycling portion of the race, potentially impacting users of the popular day-use site. The facility will be open for use; however, visitors should plan for travel delays.

Flaggers will control traffic at the entrance of the Blackwell Island recreation site before 7 a.m. and until 5:30 p.m. that day. Speed limits on U.S. 95 will be reduced to 45 mph, and parking along the shoulder is prohibited during those hours.
