VANDALS: Ex-player decries move down
1) I played at Idaho during the “Good Ol Big Sky days” and we never saw Idaho State or EWU as a rival. I remember games where we maybe had 5,000 people in the stands against both teams. Road trips up to EWU were even worse where maybe 3,000 people would show up. Idaho fans and EWU fans didn’t give a rip about that game. Road games to ISU were a little more attended but nothing to get excited about.
2) I also remember playing in the 1-AA playoffs, in the dome, in November, when we may have 5,000 people in the stands. Students were on break, people from Spokane would not make the drive due to weather or whatever, and L-town maybe showed up with 1,000 residents.
3) If 1-AA ball is so good why in the hell is every 1-AA school jumping ship to become a 1-A football playing member? Sooner than later the Big Sky will be on the only football playing conference in 1-AA.
4) Most 1-AA schools lose money on a consistent basis. I would rather see Idaho play Colorado State, Wyoming, UNLV, Bowling Green, UW, Wazzu then rowdy games against Fort Lewis, Humboldt State, and other winners that I had to play when maybe 4,000 people would come and watch. Nevada, BSU are no longer in the Big Sky. Montana State, Portand State, North Dakota, Sac State will not fill that void. We may only get 14,000 for a home game but that is sure a hell of a lot better then 4,000 to watch Idaho battle out the great Sac State.
5) Using the death of a player is sick… Come on I understand you want to pile on the bandwagon from down South but leave the kid and his family out of this.
