GUNS: One would have spared tragedy

| July 29, 2012 9:00 PM

There is no doubt that many people are blaming guns for the tragedy in the Colorado movie theater, but that would be comparable to blaming planes for the nearly 3,000 people who died on 9/11.

The loss of life could have been reduced dramatically in this horrific incident if only one person carrying a gun would have used it to stop James Holmes early in this massacre, or the 23 who died in the Luby’s massacre in 1991. One person with one gun could have reduced the loss of lives in these tragedies.

George Washington said it best: “The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that is good.”

Unfortunately, the anti-gun groups have successfully created such a negative stigma about carrying weapons that only 13 states allow the open carrying of a gun, which practically eliminates “the atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere…” and in doing so, allows “evil interference” to dominate.

James Holmes may have reconsidered his attack in that theater had the open carrying of guns in Colorado been allowed and as prevalent as it is in Arizona and as we are promoting in Idaho.

James Holmes was afraid to die; that is why he wore a bulletproof vest. But a well-placed bullet between his eyes would have stopped him in his tracks and saved lives and saved the millions of dollars Colorado will spend trying to convict him, and then kill him.
