PRESS: Bent rules for Orzell

| July 27, 2012 9:00 PM

First, I’d like to say that I have always appreciated The Press printing my “letter’s to editor” so that I may voice my opinion’s over the years.

The reason I am writing is regarding the letter printed from Frank Orzell. It is not about the content of his letter, but I would like to add a few things pertaining to his subject. The first being that I was so happy when the whole thing was done and over! As a Post Falls resident I had no say on the subject of McEuen Park or the Recall. Over the past many, many months I have had to open my paper every single morning to read an article or a letter to the editor or a paid advertisement regarding this issue. Thankfully the paper is once again filled with things other than that issue!

My problem with his letter is the word count. Over the years some of my letters have been too long and I have been asked to shorten them to 400 words. I happily complied. Franks letter was 691 words. I feel that the subjects I write my letters about are just as personal and important to me, as Frank’s Recall issue is to him. I would love to have the freedom of writing up to almost 700 words myself, because the things I write about aren’t in the paper every single day, with whatever issue at hand, being looked at from every angle possible, and every opinion imaginable given.

Enough! Frank has had plenty to say about plenty. Now he gets to have more print time, and almost double what the rest of us get. Fair is fair. What he has to say doesn’t interest me, just as I’m sure what I write about doesn’t interest him. He shouldn’t get special treatment.
