Kurt P. Henson, 47
Kurt P. Henson, of Post Falls, died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on July 24, 2012. He died doing what he loved, riding his Harley and listening to Kid Rock.
Born Jan. 25, 1965, he was the oldest son of Philipp and Virginia Henson of Lynnwood, Calif. Kurt attended school at Norwalk Brethren Elementary and graduated in 1983 from Downey High School.
After high school, he moved to Tempe, Ariz., to attend diesel mechanics school. Upon completion of school, he returned to home to continue his employment as head diesel mechanic at Kuhn’s Trucking.
In 1990, he followed in his grandfather’s and his father’s footsteps and became a law enforcement officer with Southgate (CA) Police Department, where he was a K-9 handler.
Also in 1990, Kurt was blessed to welcome his first daughter, Alexa Marie, “his No. 1” into his life. He was blessed again in 1993 and welcomed Ashlyn Flynn “Boog.” Ashlyn was his “Baby Girl.”
October 1993, Kurt and his family made the move to North Idaho to continue his career as a law enforcement officer with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department, eventually becoming a training officer.
Always looking to make a better life for his family, Kurt left Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department and started with the Spokane City Police Department in January 2000, where he was employed at the time of his death. Kurt was a training officer, instructor, motorcycle officer and mentor to fellow officers.
In 2005, the son he had always wanted came into his life. Gage Philipp Henson, “The Boy” was born and was so special to him. Gage is a mirror image of his father. Together, they loved watching NASCAR, riding dirt bikes, camping, splitting wood and just hanging out together. Kurt was Gage’s soccer and baseball coach. He left big shoes for Gage to fill, but Gage has the potential to be equally as great of a man.
Kurt was a proud third generation police officer that many considered a legacy in his line of duty. But first and foremost, his three children were his life and he was extremely proud of them.
Kurt was a generous person. He may have seemed gruff to some people but to family and friends, he was caring, generous and willing to help those that needed it.
DAD:
You were the best role model we could have. You taught us manners, respect and responsibility. Your sense of humor was what brought joy to our lives. We have never felt a love deeper and stronger than your love for us and it will carry on with us forever. You do not need to worry about the three of us because we have each other and we have everything you taught us in life. We appreciate all the sacrifices you made to make sure we were happy. We love you, Ol’ Man.
Rest in peace and you will always be in our hearts.
