SCHOOLS: Need adequate facilities
Thank you Mr. Koler for presenting the opportunity for a response. The August bond election is important and our discourse hopefully will get the readers asking questions. In your letter, there are some assumptions made about what you thought I was saying so I will clarify.
First, I didn’t imply the board can handle one issue only. I believe by bringing up uniforms and spending time on this issue prior to September, dilutes the current work that is being done for the bond. I agree uniforms have merit and it’s worth the discussions.
Secondly, the need for the bond is because our schools are old, have inadequate ventilation and outdated wiring to support current technology. Not to mention, the design of the classrooms and buildings are not conducive for today’s learning. I hardly see how this is mismanagement or poor fiscal planning, it’s simply age. Repairing the buildings is the first step to being bold and positive to improve our kids’ education. Right now our kids are limited not by past policies or agendas, but by the age and limitations of old buildings.
Third, the Cd’A school district is hardly mediocre. It one of the best performing districts in the state. I say, kudos to those who have been involved for the past 5-10 years for making this district so successful. Thank you for your hard work! I hardly consider that “lip service.” I hope that the five new board members can improve upon what’s been started.
