PARADE: Stand as flag passes
I have participated for the last nine or 10 years in the outstanding Independence Day Parade in Coeur d’Alene. One observation has been that the vast majority of those watching the parade fail to stand as the American flag passes. Out of respect for the flag alone it is proper etiquette to stand as the American flag passes in front of you. It would be so very encouraging to see everyone stand as the American colors passes by.
This day is set aside to celebrate our independence. Standing as the flag passes shows not only your respect for our flag but also respect for those who fought for our independence 236 years ago and especially for those brave men and women serving today to keep us free.
Have a meaningful Independence Day.
