WAR: Horror part of package
My comment on Robert Hunt's My Turn, Jan. 21: Hooray, Mr. Hunt, for getting it right! War is hell and unless you have been there, don't judge.
War does crazy things to men in combat. I can't speak to the war in Afghanistan or Iraq but I can for Vietnam. Same hell - just another country! But with that experience I saw the horrors of war and what it does to soldiers. I witnessed firsthand in Vietnam what our enemies did to so many of our fallen soldiers, mutilating their bodies before we could even reclaim them.
I say it loud and clear: What these Marines did to those bodies of our enemies in Afghanistan shouldn't be considered for court martial or time in the brig. Face combat in a foreign country, stare death in the eyes, and lose comrades and see how you feel. I would think that most will agree that a reprimand is in order but nothing more.
My last comment is that I'm sick and tired of how our country doesn't seem to want to end the wars that they send us over to fight. By not being given what we need to end the war victorious, I seem to always come back to the same question - What have we truly gained from the war in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq?
Someone, please answer this for me as I would like to tell my children and the families of those who gave their lives!
