HERON: Help it make Cd'A home

| January 25, 2012 9:00 PM

It's a new year for the city of Coeur d'Alene ArtCurrents art-on-loan program. Last year feedback on the ArtCurrents program was overwhelmingly positive and attracted many visitors from out of town to view the on-loan art throughout the downtown area. ArtCurrents could not have happened without the work and support of many people. First and foremost are the artists who submitted their work. The companies, Allied Weldery, North Idaho Trophy and Tumble Stone, who provided services on short notice for the installation of the art. And of course, the Arts Commissioners, City Council members and the mayor who all approved the project.

Last year readers of the Coeur d'Alene Press recall that the Great Blue Heron art piece took flight and left its perch for a while. But, it is back and overlooking Lakeside Avenue. Just recently The Press ran an article "A Permanent Nest" relative to purchasing the Great Blue Heron. Similar to art-on-loan programs in other cities, a local business, the Olympia Greek restaurant, has now started a donation program to purchase the Blue Heron. I'd like to add the fact that the Olympia Greek restaurant will donate the purchased piece to the city of Coeur d'Alene's permanent art collection. As the chair of the ArtCurrents program, I know I speak for all of the Arts Commissioners in saying "thank you" Eva Itskos for your wonderful idea.

With your enthusiasm, I'm sure you will reach your goal in a short time.

We all are looking forward to adding "Mr. Blue" to the city's art collection and letting him continue to watch over Lakeside Avenue.
