Otter to meet in Wallace today

WALLACE (AP) - Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter is scheduled to hold a town hall meeting today in Wallace to talk about the closure of the Lucky Friday Mine and economic conditions in the Silver Valley.

The meeting is planned for 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Wallace Inn.

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration earlier this month ordered Hecla Mining Co. for safety reasons to scrub the walls of the mile-deep shaft that is the main entrance to the mine.

Hecla says the mine will be closed about a year for the process.
