ANGRY: Writer rips attorney's office

| January 22, 2012 8:00 PM

This letter is a warning to the citizens of Kootenai County. Vehicle theft is no longer a punishable crime in your county.

According to your elected County Attorney, there is not enough money in his budget to bring the guilty parties to trial or even make them pay restitution. The facts of the case are an individual stripped items from a vehicle, damaged it, drove it across several state lines, applied for a temporary vehicle permit in a state office and called the registered owner afterward to tell him he was keeping it.

I realize this sounds preposterous but every bit of it is fact. All the right steps were taken in reporting it to the proper authorities. There was a total of more than $12,000 worth of damage and recovery fees that still have not been recovered as a result of your County Attorney refusing to lift a finger in this case as he feels it isn't worth his time. There is nothing questionable about this case.

It's clear-cut felony theft across state lines and destruction of personal property. The owner just found out that the case was now closed even without notification from the County Attorney's office which is supposed to be their policy.

That office is one of the most unorganized and unprofessional attorney's office in the country. My advice to all who reside in this county is consider seriously who you elect to the position of County Attorney. Your personal property could be next.
