| January 20, 2012 8:00 PM

James "Darrell" Gould, 74, resident of Coeur d'Alene, passed away Jan. 19, 2012, born in 1937 in Winona, Miss., to Mable "Dorris" (Barnhill) and Walter Gould.

Darrell earned both bachelor's and master's degrees from San Diego State College. He served in the United State Marine Corps from 1954-1957 and was honorably discharged with rank of Sergeant. He worked in San Diego, Calif., as a teacher and education administrator for 33 years in the Grossmont Union High School District. Darrell was a longtime Rotary member and source of constant support to his family and community.

He was a kind man with a loving heart and brilliant mind. With a generous and compassionate spirit, he enjoyed exploring questions of the world, being a lifelong learner, listening to others, figuring and doing house projects, restoring classic cars, laughing, dreaming, telling stories and seeing the beauty that surrounds us.

He retired to Payson, Ariz., where he lived for a number of years before moving to Coeur d'Alene. His remains will be interred at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park in Payson.

Darrell is survived by his adoring wife, Carol (Reagan) Gould; his appreciative mother-in-law, Evelyn "Betty" (Wilson) Reagan and his loving children, Darilyn Gould, Darcy Byrne, Mark Gould, Kristina Seth and Amy Gould; step-children, Holly Volberding and Heather Summers; grandchildren, Jennifer and Garrett Byrne, Alex Protosevich, Christopher Seth, Katie Gould, Shane and Elizabeth Volberding, and Dylan Summers. He could fill a room with joy just by smiling.

Yates Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Darrell's memorial and sign his online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
