Our family's resolution: Part II

After Savilla and Joe flew home by Air Ambulance, the family was met with new challenges. While Savilla was recuperating in a nursing facility, it became apparent that Joe had stage 1 Alzheimer's and Savilla had been compensating for him for quite some time. Unfortunately, while she was getting better, his condition got worse. For the next six months, the family was in and out of hospitals, rehab centers and doctor's offices. After time, Joe became so ill that they needed to call hospice for assistance. While it was a blessing to have them, Joe passed away within a few months. This happened no more than a year after Savilla broke her hip. Connie and her family were caught in a whirlwind of change with no end in sight.

For the next several years, Connie cared for her mother as well as her 90-year-old aunt who was living out of state. She made arrangements for neighbors and caregivers to help out while gaining the experience she believed necessary for starting a home care company. Eventually, Connie's mother and aunt passed away.

Currently, Connie and the rest of her family reside in Coeur d'Alene and have dedicated themselves to helping families in similar situations. Through life experience, they know what it is to care for a senior member of the family. They understand that independence is highly important. They also know that it is difficult accepting new people into the home. That is why at Home Helpers, they believe in caring for the client as if it were a member of their own family.
