Backcountry Film Festival Jan. 20
COEUR d'ALENE - Celebrate the beauty and fun of the human powered winter backcountry experience with an evening of award-winning outdoor films at the Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival.
The festival makes its one-night-only North Idaho showing at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at the Eagles Club - 209 E. Sherman Ave., Coeur d'Alene.
On its seventh annual world tour, the Backcountry Film Festival includes films from renowned filmmakers who travel around the globe to submit their best backcountry work, and from grassroots filmmakers who take a camera out on their weekend excursions. This year's judges assembled the top films into a night of fun for all - whether you like to ski, snowboard, kayak, bike or sip hot cocoa by the fire, there is something for everyone. The films are as diverse as the backcountry experience and will put a smile on the face of even the most winter-averse viewer.
Festival goers will experience the joy of biking, skiing and rafting the Denali Traverse, feel the thrill of barreling down a swift moving, icy river by kayak and delight in skiing the unknown slopes of Morocco - all from the comfort of a padded seat, with a beverage of choice in hand!
The festival was created to highlight Winter Wildlands Alliance's efforts to preserve and conserve winter landscapes for quiet users. Funds raised stay in local communities to support local, human-powered recreation efforts and to raise awareness of winter management issues, avalanche training and winter education programs. The Coeur d'Alene festival will benefit its local sponsors, the Idaho Conservation League and the Scotchman Peaks Wilderness - two conservation groups working to protect quiet recreation areas and wildlife habitat on our public lands.
The festival's timing coincides with the release of the U.S. Forest Service's new management plan for the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The Forest Service is seeking public comment on the Draft Forest Plan and information about the plan will be available by the event co-sponsors before and after the screenings. Comment cards can be filled out at the event.
The evening also includes loads of door prizes, a raffle for Silver Mountain ski tickets with overnight lodging and a complete no-host bar.
