PLATES: One place to cut state waste
We are constantly being told by government officials and elected representatives that we need to cut services due to lost revenue but I have a service that I want to cut because it is illogical and wasteful.
That service is the automatic issuance of new license plates by the state of Idaho. Many vehicles like motorcycles, trailers and recreational vehicles do not wear out their plates, because they receive intermittent use and are often stored indoors for months at a time.
But regardless of need we are sent new plates every seven years. This is wasteful and confusing because unless you go to extra effort your license number will also be taken and changed. The old plates end up in the trash and the taxpayers bear the expense and inconvenience of this wasteful practice.
I have been told that a bill was proposed in Idaho but the lobbyist for 3M and other suppliers convinced "our" paid representatives to choose waste over logic. I am tired of my life being run by special interests who don't give a hoot about anything but their bottom line.
Call or write your senators and representatives and demand for them to write and pass legislation that fixes this problem and saves us time and money.
