LAWS: We don't need any more

| January 4, 2012 9:00 PM

Regarding the "my turn" opinion in Saturday's paper wherein the author demands "new laws" related to cell phone usage in vehicles, I suggest he/she leave Idaho altogether and go to a place like California, Oregon or Washington where over-regulation has created the utopia he seeks.

We the people do not need more laws. The author stated that the inattentive driving law is an easy win for defense lawyers. That is not the law's fault but rather apathy of the justice system. So how would a "new law" be any different other than a feather in the cap of the one who legislates it?

The city of Coeur d'Alene has an effective law already in place: Careless Driving. 10.34.010 of City Code. Read it please.

I suggest you further investigate the statistics from the states that have created cell phone specific laws. You will quickly learn the laws have had no effect on curbing the usage of cell phones and/or preventing carnage on the road. But then again, you probably favor gun control, don't you?

Please city of Coeur d'Alene legal eagles, ignore this person. Enough is enough!
