Evelyn Lucille Hayes, 89
On Feb. 24, 2012, Evelyn Lucille Hayes fell into eternal sleep with her loved ones close at hand at Kootenai Medical Center after a short illness.
Evelyn was born on Oct. 27, 1922, in Coeur d’Alene to Mike and Leona Frandsen. Evelyn was the fourth of five children.
She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and soon after met her soul mate, Kendrick H. Hayes, who was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. They wed in May 1942, celebrating the birth of four sons and 68 years of marriage until Ken’s passing in September 2010.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, swimming, crossword puzzles and collecting Fenton glass. She earned numerous blue ribbons for Coeur d’Alene Masters Swim Team in the late 1980s. Together, the family spent many memorable summers at Spirit Lake. In her later years, she especially loved reading to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; sons Jon and James; her parents; and brothers Lee, Robert and Edward.
She is survived by her sons, Martin (Lynn) and Phil (Mary); daughter-in-law Mary Jane Hayes; sister Aletha Ehrhart; sister-in-law Dot Frandsen; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews; and dear friend Eleanor Howes.
At her request, private family services have already been conducted. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Evelyn’s online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
