LETTER: Bashing gays is ignorant

| February 26, 2012 8:00 PM

Mr. Birdsall, it is amazing how an individual can express such ignorance about other human beings and about his own beliefs. Regarding your letter of Feb. 19 referencing the article on the front page of The Press, you say about GAY people, “Forty years ago that article would not have been written, and that’s not reflecting on America’s progressing for the better.”

I disagree. Is it possible, that, if this article, and many more, had been written 40 years ago, might Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender/and Questioning “Human Beings” already be accepted in the mainstream of our culture!

You also suggest that GLBTQ’s are similar to polygamists. Polygamy is outlawed in the U.S. Loving someone is not! “…incest between consenting adults…” does exist and it is illegal, too. It is never between two consenting adults. It usually occurs as an arranged marriage within a Royal family to preserve their lineage.

The correct definition of incest is sexual abuse perpetrated upon a child or adolescent by a sexual deviant adult family member. It is NEVER between two consenting adults. It is sexual abuse though.

Loving someone is not deviant, or possibly, your relationship with your partner may someday be deemed “deviant.” I am at a loss for words to express the ignorance stated by you in your letter. It amazes me!

GLBTQ relationships are between two human beings, making a choice to be with someone whom they feel they want to be with — in LOVE or friendship. It cannot be legislated by anyone. Telling anyone who they may, or may not love, is incomprehensible. Your religious ideology does not make it all right. To put upon other human beings, your beliefs, because it is your belief, violates the Human Rights of free choice given to every human being who lives today.

If you are responsible, then keep your religious beliefs to yourself. If not, you will continue to express them and expose your ignorance. These beliefs cannot be legislated either. They are yours alone. I will fight for your right to your beliefs…leave others’ beliefs and rights ALONE!
