EASTON: Call the deal off

| February 12, 2012 8:00 PM

Stop trying to sell off Camp Easton! I was involved with the scouting program in the early ‘90s when the Idaho Panhandle was merged with the Inland Northwest Council in Spokane. At that time not many were convinced it was the right thing to do. Camp Easton was a very big issue then, for there has always been someone that has wanted to purchase this camp. We were assured that if the merger took place Camp Easton would never be sold.

I am dead set against its sale, and everyone I have talked with is also. I don't know where this survey was taken that says 61 percent were in favor of the swap. I have talked with no one that has even seen or heard of it.

Perhaps Mr. McCandless should spend as much time or more organizing donations to fix Camp Easton rather than sell it. There is too much history that will be lost if it is sold. Important to Idaho but obvious not to the Big City folks and uppers in the Boy Scout Council. Also, I would support an audit of everyone's accounts involved in this foolish idea, starting with Mr. McCandless.
