POST FALLS - Free training on how to reduce injuries and illness on the job will be offered to employers and employees during the Northern Idaho Safety Fest Feb. 21-23 at the Idaho National Guard armory, 5353 E. Seltice Way.

Registration deadline is Feb. 13.

"Don't learn safety by accident," said Danya Cook of Idaho Forest Group, one of the events' contributing partners.

Those interested can register or view class descriptions, times and instructor biographies at www.safetyfest-northernidaho.org.

Topics include, but are not limited to: defensive driving, cranes hazard awareness, employee management, boom lift operator and forklift training, combustible dust, CPR, accident investigation, flagger training and work site hazards.

Instructors from the manufacturing, construction, forest products, transportation and mining sectors will volunteer their time.

A trade show will be held during the first two days from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The opening ceremony featuring keynote speakers and an Avista demonstration on high voltage is Feb. 21 from 8-11 a.m.

Classes are held from noon to 5 p.m. on Feb. 21 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 22-23.

Safety Fest was founded by industry leaders to assist smaller employers with free training to their employees. The event has grown in recent years and is expected to attract 500 participants over the three days, organizers say.

The registration desk opens at 7:30 a.m. each day, and someone will be available all day to assist with check-in.

Other contributing partners include: Idaho T-2 Center, URS Corporation, Pacific Northwest OSHA Education Center, MSHA, Department of Labor, Clearwater Paper, Vigilant, Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. and North Idaho College. The event also has sponsorships available.
