HEALTH: Kudos to our governor
Governor Otter, thank you for having the courage to be a front runner in the decision to formalize plans to implement our own state insurance exchanges. To date, 32 other states across the country have chosen to be run either entirely by the federal government or a federal-state partnership.
Idaho is one of only 18 states (to include the District) that plan to build their own health insurance exchange, rather than sit back and let the federal government do it for us. Governor Otter, without a doubt, appreciates the restrictions and pitfalls of entertaining a federally operated government plan modeled as a one size-fits-all solution.
Philosophically, a suitable solution in the heart and minds of many Idahoans is to maintain and cultivate a health-care delivery program in cooperation with professionals and providers that have been caring for our communities for many years.
I appreciate that Governor Otter will be giving us a seat at the “head of the table” when this important process gets under way.
