GUNS: Armed means prepared

| December 28, 2012 8:00 PM

How bad could it be to have an armed person on the kids’ side when there is a school shooting?

People have always used arms to protect what they value the most. We have armored trucks and armed guards to protect our money. We have armed security guards to protect property. Often wealthy and famous people have armed guards to protect them. In our history there were those who rode “shotgun” on the stages to protect the mail, the valuables and passengers. We have armed forces to protect our country.

So now we have people who are opposing having police officers in our schools. Is there anything more valuable to us than our children? Sure, it’s too bad that it’s necessary. But which is better, for law-enforcement to be pro-active or re-active? Do you want the officer there in your child’s school where some or all of the violence may be prevented or would you prefer the police be called and while they are on their way children are being killed?

I liked what I heard on TV this morning, “The only one to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” (Wish I had the name of the person who said it.)

Remember when police officers were thought of as friends by school children? Well, they still are — friends!
