Janie (Dickes) Loper, 81
Janie (Dickes) Loper, 81, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2012.
She was born in Portland, Ore., on Feb. 1, 1931, to her beloved parents Ernest and Ruby Dickes. Janie graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1950, and later attended North Idaho College. On Dec. 4, 1953, she married Ronald L. Best. They remained married until 1970. Janie remarried eight years later on Oct. 7, 1978, to Guy Loper and were together until Guy’s untimely passing in 1999.
During her lifetime, Janie worked as a court clerk and in the licensing department for Kootenai County. Her final means of employment was at Sears in Coeur d’Alene, working in the catalog department from which she retired in the 1980s.
She enjoyed family barbecues, sewing, drawing, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Simple things like going out for a banana split, milkshake or mocha was always a real treat for her. She spoke with affection about her very close friends from high school that she stayed in touch with throughout the years (many of whom lived out of state) and always wished she could have seen them more often. She was proud of being “five-foot-two, eyes of blue,” and was a “ding-y, ding-y little woman” as her late husband often jokingly called her, and she will be missed.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Loper of Coeur d’Alene; and dear sister Darlene Schau of Spokane. She is survived by two daughters: Debbie Pohlmeier and husband Ken of Omaha, Neb., Terri Kieper and husband Paul of Coeur d’Alene; and also by grandchildren, Ron Kieper of Coeur d’Alene, Jon Pohlmeier and Lisa Pohlmeier of Omaha; and many step-children and step-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene. Directly after the service there will be a potluck reception at the funeral chapel with burial to follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
