VIKINGS: Tribute to a great team
To me, this team’s effort to repeat as state champs reflected all that is positive about participating in sports, including the carry-over value of addressing life’s challenges. I humbly offer this salute.
The desire that stirred you boys from deep within
Moved you to work, when first you did begin
The process of overcoming your doubts and fears,
Soon lifted you to heights beyond your years.
The dedication to ever “stay the course,”
Give your best, right to the very end,
Created the chemistry that did transcend
The earnest play of boys, to that of “budding” men.
You may revel now a bit you “boys of fall,”
For you “laid it on the line,” you gave your all.
Although you did not claim the highest prize,
Your effort to repeat was “Viking-Size.”
Then, as in all of life, travail met you on your way,
Regrouping, you did not let those disappointments sway,
Your heartfelt striving, eclipsed with “Biking Blue” each dark cloud,
And that is why your coaches, fans and family are so proud!
Including me!

P.S. While we’re at it, let’s not forget all the kids in our region who “played their hearts out.” Not for self, but for team. Winners all!
