RECALL: Just doing their jobs

| April 25, 2012 10:00 PM

I write today because of my frustration with the idea that Mayor Bloem and council members Kennedy, Goodlander and McEvers have done anything that is worthy of a recall. They may make decisions that you or I don’t agree with, but that is THEIR JOB.

I voted for all of them. I worked with all of them as a former city employee. My expectation is for them to make decisions. That is THEIR job.

To the people who want a public vote on the McEuen issue: What next? Where does it stop? Do we vote on which trees to plant, what color to paint city buildings? These are the decisions we voted them into office to make. Granted, the scale of McEuen is larger than my examples, but they participated in multiple public presentations and got input, pro and con, from the public for the McEuen proposal. They used that input along with their knowledge and experience to make a decision. And that decision provided a pared down plan. They LISTENED.

I was born in the city of Coeur d’Alene. In the nearly 50 years that I have lived here, I have used McEuen Playfield no more than a handful of times. If you don’t play softball, there isn’t much else to do there. I applaud those with the vision to make it into a place that I can go and enjoy rather than a place I can see as I drive by.

Please decline to sign the Recall petition!
