RECALL: A sad state of affairs

| April 25, 2012 10:00 PM

I am saddened by the malice and anger that the regeneration and repurposing of McEuen Park is creating. This space has had many and varied uses throughout the decades I’ve lived in Coeur d’Alene. As a Coeur d’Alene native I recall the field being home to the County Fairgrounds, tennis courts and even a crafts cottage. It was also a girl’s softball park and before even my time it was a mill and a military camp.

Times change. Interests change. Usability and accessibility needs change.

We need to recognize and encourage greater community use of this downtown treasure. This is a unique opportunity and a perfect time to begin the enhancement of the park that along with the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, the vital and thriving downtown and lovely lakeside vistas make this a centerpiece for visitors and citizens alike.

Now is the time to support the elected officials who have studied the issues, taken seriously all the community input and acted according to their constituents wishes.

STOP THE RECALL.
