ASPHALT: Lack of respect shown

| April 18, 2012 9:00 PM

I wanted to vomit when I read the article about the “new” asphalt plant the county commissioners are considering. What is the pretense about? Last time they saw that they would be putting a plant in the middle of an area filled with people’s homes and they didn’t care. Specifically, Commissioner Tondee didn’t care when we homeowners testified that the smell was horrendous and that it defied the Comprehensive Plan and that the danger to the ground water was a reality. He didn’t care when we homeowners stood to lose everything we had worked so hard to get. He didn’t care when people from the mobile home park testified that emissions were oppressive to them but that they had nowhere else to go.

At the end of two years of begging, Commissioner Tondee told us the same thing he said at the first hearing. He told us that we should have known better than to live near a small gravel pit. His condescension and lack of respect for homeowners’ rights cost my family the home of our dreams, the home we worked hard to finally afford. Now I see that he is doing it to someone else.

When are we going to stop this man and tell him that homeowners should have the right to protect the most significant financial investment they may ever make? We were not able to protect our house from his decision as Commissioner but if we vote him out, maybe your rights can be protected.
