IB: District mum on key information
Maureen Dolan's article missed a major point regarding the school board's IB/AP and Strategic Planning Workshop held last Monday. Our school district continues to be in a financial emergency - times are tight. The workshop's advertised purpose was to provide data comparing IB and AP, so that planning decisions can be made. The problem is, no financial cost data was brought to the meeting. The only data shared was about test scores.
How can the community (or the board for that matter) assess these programs without cost data? Apparently, that data was requested and promised, but not delivered. To make matters worse, Ms. Bauman stated she could not promise that the public would receive the requested cost information before the "community chat" to be held Monday, Sept. 26.
Ms. Bauman: Stop wasting the public's time and money. Expressed public concerns about the expense of IB are nothing new here in Coeur d'Alene. The only logical conclusion is that the school administration did not want to share information damaging to the IB program - which they have tried so desperately to keep going, despite its high cost and lack of success.
