Idaho's disbanded redistricting panel reaches deal three weeks past deadline

BOISE (AP) - A panel that was charged with redrawing Idaho's political maps has finally reached an agreement - but it came about three weeks past their deadline.

Idaho officials are working to name an entirely new redistricting committee after a previous effort failed in early September amid bitter rancor between Democratic and Republican members. But the parties announced Friday those previous redistricting commissioners had come to a consensus.

State GOP chairman Norm Semanko and Democratic Party Chairman Larry Grant are expected to meet Monday with the Idaho Secretary of State Ben Ysursa to present the redistricting agreement and discuss future steps.

Meanwhile, Idaho's new redistricting commission is expected to start meeting on Wednesday.

Semanko said the parties are meeting with Ysursa next week to determine the next appropriate steps.
