LIDS: United we stood
So often today we run across elected officials that have forgotten the purpose of their position which is to represent the people in their districts. Many times these elected officials determine what unnecessary projects we will spend our tax dollars on whether we want them or not, or decide we need to pay an extra tax for projects or services we are already being taxed on.
Such was the case with the East Side Highway District and the Local Improvement Districts. Last September at the first LID hearings the citizens were treated poorly and told by the East Side Highway District the LID's were a done deal and there was NOTHING we could do about it.
Bonding together and taking a united stand against taxation without representation has proven those words to be wrong.
While I may have started the petitions, informed people of the statute, and kept people informed of the progress and the meetings it took all of us united together! Every letter, every signature and every person that showed up for meetings made a difference. I am proud of my neighbors and those in my district that stood up to be counted.
Plato once said, "The price of Apathy toward public affairs is to be ruled by evil men." We were not indifferent or apathetic on the LID issue and hopefully this will be a start in reforming our government back to what it was originally intended to be - By the people, for the people!
Kudos to the County Commissioners for their decision and for representing the people!
