Howell in her fourth,

fifth career incarnation

Chris Howell, 53, is in her fourth or fifth career incarnation. That experience includes business management, business consulting, curriculum development and small farm management and marketing.

Her ability to keep reinventing herself, and her experiences as a student, uniquely suit her to her new job: Howell is a recent graduate of a University of Idaho master's degree program in family and consumer sciences and has been hired as an advising and outreach specialist for University of Idaho Coeur d'Alene.

She helps students plan, understand and navigate their degree programs. Her role also includes community outreach.

Howell's insights into the challenges students face go beyond academics: She also earned a bachelor's in business administration while working full time as a shopping center manager in the Portland metro area.

"One's legacy includes opening doors for others, helping other people achieve their goals in addition to achieving your own," she said. "There's a lot of satisfaction in that."

Fawcett named general manager of Cd'A Red Robin

Reid Fawcett was recently named the general manager of the Coeur d'Alene Red Robin. He was formerly the GM of the Red Robin in downtown Spokane since 2007.

While in Spokane, he led a team that set four Hoopfest one-day sales records for the entire company of 450 restaurants, including the all-time company record for one-day sales in June 2011.

He is excited to join the team of Alisha D'Agosino (AGM), Jason Keene (KM) and James Henderson as they look forward to continuing the success that the restaurant has had over the past three years.

"We will be increasing our presence in the community, and will be supporting many company initiatives throughout the remainder of the year, such as extended later hours every night of the week, with better happy hour offerings, as well as driving our new diner frequency program called "Red Royalty," he said.

Prior to being GM of Red Robin, Fawcett was the GM at the Coeur d'Alene Applebee's for seven years.

"I have been a Coeur d'Alene resident for the past 10 years, and am excited to be back home," he said.

Workshops scheduled

in Idaho Power rate case

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission will conduct three workshops throughout southern Idaho next week regarding Idaho Power Company's request for an average 10 percent rate increase. The utility applied for the increase on June 1 and is hoping to have it become effective by Jan. 1.

The workshops are set for Sept. 20 in Pocatello, Sept. 21 in Twin Falls and Sept. 22 in Boise.

Proposed increases for customer classes vary according to the cost the company incurs to serve each customer class. The company's proposed increase for residential customers is 8.8 percent. That includes a proposed increase in the monthly service charge from $4 to $5 per month. The proposed increase for small-commercial, industrial and irrigation customers is 14.8 percent and 7.3 percent for large-commercial customers.

If you have a new, relocated or expanded business, or announcement of events, promotions or awards, The Press wants to let our readers know. The service is free and items run Tuesday through Saturday. To get the word on the street on your movers and shakers, call city editor Bill Buley at 664-8176 Ext. 2016 or e-mail [email protected].
