Normally, the only weather issues local high school football teams have to deal with is the occasional rainstorm during a game or, later in the year, snow and/or cold.

But local teams will likely have to deal with another form of extreme weather tonight and Saturday - heat.

The predicted high temperature for today and Saturday is 93 degrees each day. For those kicking off tonight at 7, it should be a few degrees cooler by then, but on Saturday, when Coeur d'Alene plays host to Skyview of Vancouver, Wash., kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Tonight's Games

Lake City (1-1) at Lewiston (1-1): This is another of those games between 5A Inland Empire League foes that doesn't count in the league standings. The teams meet again Oct. 7 at Lake City in the league matchup.

Lewiston lost its opener 29-16 to Post Falls, which won 17-7 at Lake City last week. Lewiston beat Clarkston 32-20 last week.

Post Falls (2-0) at Madison (0-2): Madison, a 4A school, lost 41-7 to Pocatello and 36-21 to Hillcrest of Idaho Falls in its first two games this year.

East Valley (1-0) at Lakeland (1-1): East Valley opened with a 37-13 victory over Sandpoint, a foe of Lakeland’s in the 4A Inland Empire League. Adam Talley rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two more for the Knights. Lakeland is coming off a 41-7 romp at Colville.

St. Maries (0-2) at Freeman (1-0): The Scotties opened last week with a 39-7 victory over Bonners Ferry, a foe of St. Maries in the Intermountain League.

Cheney (1-0) at Timberlake (2-0): The Blackhawks opened last week with a 41-21 victory over Kelowna (British Columbia) Secondary School. Timberlake has beaten Libby and Riverside in its first two outings.

Lacrosse-Washtucna (1-0) at Kootenai (0-2): Lacrosse-Washtucna opened last week with a 40-38 victory over Salmon River, which advanced to the semifinals of the Idaho state 1A Division II playoffs last year.

Mullan (0-1 North Star League, 0-1) at Lakeside (2-0, 2-0): Both teams have played Clark Fork this season, with Lakeside winning 50-0 at Clark Fork, and Mullan losing 48-18 at home to the Wampus Cats.

Saturday’s Game

Skyview (0-1) at Coeur d’Alene (2-0): The Storm handed Coeur d’Alene its only loss last year, 36-34 in Vancouver, Wash. The Vikings have won 11 straight games since then.

Skyview, which lost in the first round of the Washington state 3A playoffs last year, opened last weekend with a 27-24 loss to Sherwood, which won Oregon’s state 5A title last year. Parker Henry ran for 135 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries for the Storm.
