KHS: Volunteers, workers deserve thanks

| October 26, 2011 10:00 PM

From my own personal experience in adopting a dog recently, I want to join those who write in expressing their gratitude to the workers and volunteers for the love and work they do at the shelter, and in caring for the animals who by no fault of their own are there.

This is why I believe animals come first:

My husband and I had been up and down in emotions about getting another dog since our last dog of 13 years had died more than a year ago. A friend told us that at the Kootenai Humane Society on Ramsey in Hayden was where he adopted his dog several years ago and urged us to do the same. He told us that there is a dog out there that needs a good and loving home. Several months went by and in August I decided to look for that special dog we could love and love us.

I did call the KHS and explained to the person who was going to help me why I wanted a dog, our home situation and other information. After a few days and more phone calls she told us there might be a dog I would consider. That was Aug. 16, 2011. I did not know at the time I was being helped by a supervisor, a very special lady, who took the time and interest in trying to place us with the right dog and the right dog with us.

We arrived at KHS and I met the lady who had helped me on the phone. She offered to get the dog while we waited. When she returned she said I could take the dog outside to the yard and be with her. The dog seemed OK and stayed with me as I signed the adoption papers and then we took her home.

We've had her two months and I would not part with her for anything. Because of her gentleness, obedience, intelligence and playfulness, I can only believe that she was treated well and loved by those at KHS.

We have thanked the personnel at KHS for the care and love they showed her the two and a half months she was there with them. We are helping to support KHS and again say "thank you" from the bottom of our hearts.
