OCCUPY: Media exaggerates impact

| October 19, 2011 10:00 PM

The "Occupy Wall Street" and its offshoot splinters in Seattle, Spokane and even Coeur d'Alene (?) are being fueled by ignorance and stupidity, and the media, including TV, the Internet, and local newspapers (Coeur d'Alene Press included), are largely to blame. The coverage and hype that is portrayed is there for the sole purpose to attract viewers and readers.

The entire situation is entirely overstated and exaggerated by the media. Many of these protesters are college students with too much time on their hands. Many others are freaks that are too lazy to even look for a job.

The number of protesters at these "stand-ins" is grossly overstated. To illustrate the problem of this excess "Media" coverage, all you have to do is look at Sunday's Coeur d'Alene Press, Oct. 16, on page A7. Staff writer Bill Buley states in his article, several times, that "hundreds of protesters" were in attendance at Highway 95 and Appleway. I drove by that corner three different times during their 12-hour protest period, and there were never more than two dozen sign waving people there. C'mon media! Stop the blatant exaggeration! OK?
