PRESS: Great paper, bad ad

| October 16, 2011 10:00 PM

Let me start by stating that I love the Coeur d'Alene Press. I like to read every section, looking for names of people I know in my community or those I would like to get to know. It's a wonderful way to keep in touch with activities and events and stay informed of local issues.

When I taught social studies to four classes of seventh-graders, we had The Press delivered everyday so my students could read about current events and how they related to what we talked about in class. I encourage my teens at home to read any articles that may interest them.

Imagine one of those teenagers opening up the "C" section in our newspaper and coming face to face with a brightly colored ad depicting a cosmetically enhanced young woman in a tiny bikini top, looking as if she's giving a lap dance to someone!

I've read many letters to the editor about this and have seen no changes. Maybe the Kon Tiki lounge could just advertise their website in the paper and people can look at the pornographic images in the privacy of their own homes.

I am seriously thinking of canceling my seven-year subscription until The Press can assure me that this is once again a family friendly newspaper. Is it really worth the advertising dollars to offend a large portion of your readers? I think it may be time to reconsider.
