JOBS: New words, same old tune

| October 16, 2011 10:00 PM

When one hears the old axiom, "If people don't learn from history, they are bound to repeat it," you tend to think of history in terms of 50 to a thousand years ago. After reading last Sunday's editorial page it is apparent that at least two young ladies don't recall history of about a dozen years ago.

The government was going to pay for more than a thousand new police personnel to join forces throughout the nation. Many cities jumped for joy. Not only would this stimulus package employ more people but also it would be a great aid in fighting crime. Cities and counties that had some foresight declined the offer because the money from the government would shortly come to an end and just who would pick up the tab?

The current Job Bill is nothing but a warmed over version of the one mentioned above, with a little garnish added by including thousands of new teachers along with police personnel. The end result one year from now, if passed, will be thousands of teachers and police being laid off, the country will be billions more in debt and the next president will have to pick up the pieces.
