Hayden man wins first place at OktoberFish

BAYVIEW - A Hayden man claimed first place in the seventh annual OktoberFish on Lake Pend Oreille.

All told, 109 fishermen trolled the deep, clear, southern waters of the lake trying to land $3,000 in prizes and the coveted Golden Trout traveling trophy.

Cory LaRue on Saturday hooked a 14-pound, 7-ounce, kamloops rainbow trout to take the lead that held up.

Randy Vanderkolk, captain of team "Family Unit," brought in a 13-pound, 2-ounce kamp on Sunday, while Roy Stokes of Post Falls was third with an 11-pound, 4-ounce fish.
