ELECTION: Voting speaks the loudest

| November 25, 2011 8:15 PM

It was very surprising and disappointing to me when the recent voting turnout percentage was 29 percent. The remaining 71 percent of registered voters in Coeur d'Alene that didn't make the effort to vote on City Council positions that directly affect them really puzzled me.

Voting is such a privilege and not taking the time, which didn't take more than 15 minutes, is very sad. Considering that so many people throughout the world don't even have the opportunity to vote on anything, it seems like an insult to those who would love to vote but can't.

It has been mentioned that those who are eligible to vote and don't shouldn't be able to complain about issues. Well, everyone has the right to complain, but shame on those who didn't vote.
