VETERANS: Winton kids ring the bell

| November 18, 2011 9:00 PM

The 3rd Street Bell Veterans Day ceremonies were really enhanced with the help of Ms. Nancy Mueller and her students from Winton Elementary School. No school on Friday but these outstanding young people volunteered to use their day off in a very constructive way.

Ms. Mueller and these kids sang their hearts out and caused many a tear in the eyes and faces of those veterans attending the services. When the chorus concluded their singing, they all stood and saluted us veterans; yes indeed the tears flew and were not caused by the wind off the lake. I'm hoping they set a new standard - it will be great if this becomes the norm at all future ceremonies at the 3rd Street Bell.

Thanks too for Jim Shepperd's continuing to ring the bell on Veterans Day ever since he returned home from World War II. Nice white hammer with white gloves and a patriotic walking cane too.
