Leon Louis Matej, 66

Leon Louis Matej, 66, of Coeur d'Alene, passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, in Minot, N.D.

Leon was born to Ida and Louie Matej in Donna, Texas, on June 18, 1945. Leon was united in marriage to Dotty Adkins on Aug. 10, 1970.

Leon served his country in the Marine Corps during his younger years. He worked in the oilfield most of his life, was employed by Exxon-Mobil for many years and more recently worked as a consultant in the oilfield. He had a passion for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family at the St. Joe River. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Leon is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dotty Matej; his daughter, Tamara Matej; his son, Wesley Matej; two grandchildren; his three sisters and their husbands, Barbara and Chuck Webb, Delores and Jack West, and Patsy Cambell; his two brothers, George and his wife Kandy Matej, and Darrell Matej; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Kootenai County Humane Society.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel.
