RIGHTS: They're being run over
Regarding the article on "Right of way right" in the Nov. 5 Press, I was not contacted at all by anyone except my neighbors. My understanding is that there would be no recompense to landowners for the area because Old 95 was a highway, and as such would entitle the county to access that additional area.
This is very interesting! I moved onto this property in 1965. There was at that time only one other home on Old 95, and the road was blocked off at Ohio Match; it remained blocked off until just a few years ago and so far as I know, only used by local residents since that time. Certainly it was not a road that anyone would have chosen to travel. I was told it was opened so that the county would snowplow that portion.
I have no idea how long it has been closed before 1965. Isn't it odd that suddenly our properties can be encroached upon without any payment from the county? It seems to me odd that they can move poles, and possibly the gas line, but there is nothing available to pay the businesses and other homes from Highway 53 north?
