She was born Sarah Isabel Dallas in Butte, Mont., on Sept. 17, 1914, to parents, William and Cecilia Dallas. She was the youngest of eight children. She had four brothers, Gilbert, Bill, Phil and Ted; and three sisters, Mary, Celia and Nell.
She was preceded in death by all of her siblings; her first husband, Robert L. Todd; second husband Raymond Schaffer; a daughter, Diana (Beth) Dallas and an infant grandson, Wade Todd.

Sarah was a farm wife and mother in her early life in Montana's Gallatin Valley. During World War II, as part of the "Greatest Generation" she worked as an inspector at Douglas Aircraft in Los Angeles, Calif. Recalling this war time work was one of her fondest memories. She advanced to the position of chief inspector and made a good salary for women of her time. She and her family then returned to Stevensville, Mont., to resume farm life.
Sarah was relocated to Coeur d'Alene from Polson in 2004 to be near the resident Idaho members of her family and to receive ongoing care oversight.
