Regarding the story in Wednesday's Coeur d'Alene Press about Lakes Magnet Middle School hosting an EPA representative to talk about the toxic legacy of the mining industry in this region:
Do you suppose that the school also intends to host a representative from the mining industry or a university's mining program to discuss the positive changes and technological modernization that have been made in today's mines? Maybe the school could even host a presentation on the important role of mining and minerals in everything from national security to hybrid cars. No discussion of the natural resource-based history of this area is truly complete without discussing the modernization - and betterment - of the old ways.
