Driving in his golden years: Part I

James and Betty, Coeur d'Alene residents of more than 40 years, were driving home from the store. As James pulled into the driveway, Betty heard a loud crash on the side of the car. She said, "What was that, Jim?!" He responded, "What was what?" She said, "I heard something hit the car!" He sighed and said, "I think you're hearing things." As they parked and got out of the car, Betty noticed a dent on the rear passenger side. She looked up and saw that the mailbox was on the ground.

She exclaimed, "You did it again! You hit the mailbox!" He argued by saying, "I'm a good driver. I didn't hit anything. It must've been kids!" The argument continued into the house. "I can't believe you're denying it. You need to do something about your driving. What about the winter?!" Betty was very upset because this wasn't the first time that James hit something and denied it. She was concerned about their safety and wasn't sure what to do.

The next day, Sharon from Home Helpers came over. She cares for the couple three times a week by cooking meals, cleaning and running errands. Betty told her, "I'm concerned about Jim driving this winter." She told her about the mailbox and that it wasn't the first incident.
