GOOKIN: Fair - and probing

| November 2, 2011 10:00 PM

Slowly, but surely, power corrupts. The majority of the incumbents on the City Council are people I have voted for. Sadly, the longer they have been in power, the more they have turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the desires of the citizenry, in relentless pursuit of their own vision of what is good for the city. Self-described "risk-takers," they have sometimes played fast and loose with the Public Purse. As public servants, they should welcome a vote on glaringly high-ticket items, such as McEuen Field and the Education Corridor.

Dan Gookin has been a relentless citizen watchdog at meetings of the City Council. He does the vital work of researching issues, asking the questions that council members neglect to ask themselves, carefully examining proposed plans and expenditures, and requesting pertinent documents. He goes through budgets, line by line, and knows what is going on at multiple levels of city government. Dan is pleasant, fair and probing. That is why we need him on our City Council.

Don't be misled by flashy, expensive billboards, backed by the Big Money of vested interests! If you don't want more of the same cynical disregard for public dissent, vote for Dan Gookin for Seat 3. Steve Adams is also a sound choice for Seat 5.

Remember, we get the government we deserve! The Elections Office is located at 1803 Third St. (208-446-1030). Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Local government is where we can truly make a difference. Please vote!
