Woman who fired gun taken into protective custody
COEUR d'ALENE - A woman who fired shots from a gun and threatened to kill herself was taken into custody early Monday.
The authorities surrounded a home at 1600 Nettleton Gulch Road about 4:30 a.m. following reports that "a female had fired a gun and was threatening suicide during a verbal domestic dispute," according to a press release.
The woman was later found by Coeur d'Alene police near the residence and was taken into mental protective custody without incident. She was transported to Kootenai Medical Center for mental evaluation, the release said.
Charges are pending for discharge of a firearm in city limits and interruption of 911.
The firearm was not found inside the home or surrounding area. Police believe the woman hid the firearm and said if anyone finds a firearm in the area they should call 911.
Cd'A Bah's celebrate Race Unity Day June 12
The Coeur d'Alene Bah's community invites the public to its annual Race Unity Day celebration Sunday, June 12 from 11 a.m. to 130 p.m. at the City Park gazebo.
Spokeswoman Carol Hudson said it will feature a jam session and talent show featuring local talent, and all are welcome to participate even if just toe tapping to the music.
"Feel free to bring your musical instruments and voices, your mime, juggling act, poem recitation or skit to affirm the beauty of our diverse community," she said. "Help "make a 'joyful noise' in Coeur d'Alene."
The Bah's will serve the traditional unity in diversity cake as at previous Race Unity Day events. A picnic of grilled hot dogs will be available for free.
Race Unity Day was established by the Bah's of United States in 1957. It is observed, nationwide, on the second weekend in June and promotes racial harmony and the understanding of the essential unity of humankind.
One of the basic principles of the Bah's Faith is elimination of all prejudices including racial prejudices. Bah's, who believe that racial prejudice is the most challenging issue facing our nation, celebrate Race Unity Day to call attention to America's need to unify its rich and diverse racial elements.
