Hayden Little League helping out league in Joplin, Mo.

| May 29, 2011 9:00 PM

HAYDEN - Like many of us, Mike Kelley watched the coverage of the devastating tornado that ripped through Joplin, Mo., last Sunday.

He logged onto the Internet and saw that one of the Little Leagues there - the Joplin South Little League - had its longtime field, Sunny Jim Park, destroyed.

"We should do something to help," he thought.

Kelley has a son who plays baseball in the Hayden Little League, and he umpires league games.

With his impetus, the Hayden Little League is organizing an equipment drive to help out their Little League brethren in the Joplin South Little League. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 4:30-7 p.m. at Croffoot Park in Hayden, Kelley and others will be accepting cash donations from anyone wishing to help. The money will go to help the Joplin South Little League purchase equipment and do whatever they need to do to rebuild their field.

Also, the Hayden Little League will be accepting donations of cleats, baseball pants, gloves, bats, balls, etc., to send to Missouri.
