TUBBS: Tragedy on Tuesday night

| May 27, 2011 10:00 PM

Tuesday night at the McEuen Field meeting, I was sitting next to veterans from two different wars that are in wheelchairs. They were there to speak for the project and to advocate for an accessible trail on Tubbs Hill.

When the crowd yelled and cheered the "No scarring" of the precious hill I could see the hurt and rejection in their eyes and felt that they didn't need to hear the crowd roar against them. My reaction was to tell the crowd to shut up.

It seems very strange to me that the same people who fought for their freedom are the ones now being pushed away. The truth is that the old dock does not work for someone in a wheelchair or with severe mobility issues and the hill is the same.

I will continue my battle even against the many that find their dirt, rocks, roots, planks and nails over people.
