Disaster declaration issued for two eastern Idaho counties
BOISE (AP) - A disaster declaration has been issued for two eastern Idaho counties dealing with minor flooding or to help respond against the threat of more significant flooding.
The Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security announced the declaration Wednesday for Bingham and Jefferson counties.
Thick snowpack and moisture have brought rivers and streams at or near flood stage in the counties.
With warmer temperatures predicted in the coming week, conditions could worsen.
Bingham County officials have requested aid in removing debris blamed for eroding banks and backing up against bridges.
Jefferson County is dealing with minor flooding in some areas. County officials say they've been taking steps to protect property and lessen the damage that could be caused by the Snake River.
The declaration was also approved by Gov. Butch Otter.
