Teacher talks resume Thursday

The next round of contract negotiations between the Coeur d'Alene School District and the Coeur d'Alene Education Association is scheduled to take place Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Hayden Meadows Elementary School, 900 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden.

The meetings are open to the public, although no comments or questions are accepted during negotiations. Caucuses, meetings when the teams separate to deliberate, can be called at any time, and are closed to the public.

Members of the public are asked to sign in on an attendance sheet, silence cell phones, enter and exit quietly, refrain from conversation, and keep non-verbal communication neutral.

Negotiations began in April, and must be completed by June 10.

CHS principal search down to two

The search for a new principal for Coeur d'Alene High School is down to two finalists, both leaders at downtown elementary schools.

Jim Gray, Sorensen Magnet School principal, and Warren Olson, principal at Fernan Elementary, will meet Thursday with CHS staff, faculty, and some parents and students.

An interview committee will consider feedback from Thursday's meetings before making a final recommendation to Superintendent Hazel Bauman on June 1.

"All five candidates were very accomplished and had superb interviews. We are fortunate to have had such quality candidates," wrote Bauman in a memo distributed Tuesday to CHS staff.

Randy Russell, now principal at CHS, announced in April that he accepted the superintendent's position at Freeman School District in Eastern Washington. Russell has been in his position at CHS for five years.
